Production Workers

Production Workers play a significant role in the advanced wood processing sector. They work in the production area with a team of people who are responsible for the hands on activities associated with producing the final product. The work week is generally 40 hours. The salary range is from $21,000 to $45,000 annually. Travel for training in new production techniques is sometimes required. Production Workers are experienced cutters and sawyers. They can also have skills in sanding, assembling, and finishing. Generally these skills would have been acquired through training or experience. Further training and experience may result in promotional opportunities. The most important essential skills are oral communications and working with others.

Dorothy Hart is an assembler at Cabinetmaster Architectural in Charlottetown, PEI. Dorothy started her career in the advanced wood processing sector as a sander and then moved on to the spray booth. She was trained on the edge bander and planer before becoming an assembler. Dorothy likes working with her hands and she is keenly interested in learning architectural drawing, working with different types of wood, and building different products. In addition to her regular work as an assembler, Dorothy’s knowledge of wood products combined with her photography skills, (she is a graduate of the photography program at Holland College), often see her called upon to develop promotional pictures for the company’s public relations materials.

Leonard Moreira attended the woodworking technology co-op program at Conestoga College and now works as a finisher at Marana Kitchens in Etobikoke, Ontario. Leonard was encouraged by his high school shop teacher to think about the potential opportunities in the advanced wood processing sector in furniture and kitchen design, sales and management.

Paulette Talbot works as a frame assembler at Triangle Kitchen Ltd. in Dieppe, New Brunswick. She began her career in the advanced wood processing sector nineteen years ago when she was hired for a position in a woodworking shop. She soon discovered that she had a knack for working with wood. Her career path would eventually take her to Triangle Kitchen. Paulette has attended the mechanics program at New Brunswick Community College and the engineering program at the University of Moncton.
