Support Managers

Support Managers provide solutions in a specific department that support the overall operation of the company. This could be in sales, logistics, human resources, legal advice or computer support. The salary range for a Support Manager is from $40,000 to $60,000 annually. Support Managers work in an office environment and generally work a 40 hour work week. Occasional travel for business and training may be necessary.

Support Managers often have a degree or diploma in a production related field. They tend to be highly motivated and eager to explore new ideas and concepts that impact the workplace.  The most important essential skills are document use, numeracy, and oral communications.

ERP Business Manager

Sandeep Parhar is an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Business Manager at Craftsman Panel Cutters in Delta, BC. A graduate of the Financial Management Program at Douglas College and the Operations Management Diploma Program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, Sandeep came to the advanced wood processing sector on the recommendation of friends already in the industry. “Here, you can be professional in your blue jeans. This is a white collar job in a blue collar environment.”

Sandeep began his career at Craftsman Panel Cutters by doing a safety audit and spending about three months on each machine. He progressed from lead hand to production manager for the division and then went into purchasing and logistics before finding his current job in ERP.

Sales and Marketing

Chris Petkau started in production 20 years ago and now works in sales and marketing for Spruceland Millworks Inc. in Acheson, Alberta. While Chris was initially attracted to the industry because of the money, he soon realized it was more about the people and the pleasure of working for a family owned business. “It’s a different environment, less of a numbers game and more about personal caring. I spent a lot of time in production, so when the sales position was offered to me I wanted to know every aspect about the business. I’ve been in sales for 10 years now.”
